4 nights downriver,from your ownveranda.
The most-painted stretch of the Yangtze, on the only tier of cruise that is actually quiet.
The Yangtze Three Gorges (Qutang, Wu, and Xiling) are the 200-kilometre limestone stretch of the 600-kilometre cruise route between Chongqing and Yichang. Cruise ships run downstream in four nights, upstream in five. The fleet ranges widely in quality; we book one tier and one tier only, the premium operator whose top-deck cabins carry a private veranda. The two operators we will not put a guest on are also named in our pre-trip notes, so you know why we chose what we chose.
Four nights,
three gorges, your own deck.
Embarkation in Chongqing
Skyline at dusk.
Board late afternoon as the vertical city lights up behind you. Our Chongqing transfer goes direct from your hotel or the airport to the ship. No group bus, no thirty-minute queue at the gangway. Your cabin keys are in hand before the first dinner.
Lesser-Three Gorges shore excursion
On a smaller boat.
Day two: a smaller boat into the Daning tributary, through karst walls too narrow for the main ship. Cormorant fishermen on the bow, Tujia hill villages above. The shore excursion most large cruises skip, included on our tier.
Through Wu Gorge at first light
Veranda coffee.
The middle gorge, Wu, passes at sunrise on day three if the river timing holds. Coffee on your private veranda, no commentary on the loudspeaker, mist lifting off the water. This is the reason the veranda cabin tier exists.
Questions worth
answering early.
The premium operator whose top-deck cabins carry a private veranda. We will not name them in marketing copy because the ship selection is part of our active vetting and the fleet ages over time. What is the right ship in 2026 may not be in 2028. Our pre-trip notes name the specific ship we have selected for your dates, the cabin tier, the two operators we will not put guests on, and why.
